    Visitor Center

    Bryce Canyon National Park is open year round. The majority of park visitors come during June to September and are lowest in December through February. The park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There may be temporary road closures during and shortly after winter snow storms until plowing is completed and conditions are safe for visitor traffic. Road maintenance may require brief closures of individual areas at other times.

    Bryce Canyon National Park has some fantastic rock structures and colors for fantastic scenic beauty. Activities to consider while here are but not limited to: backpacking, biking, camping, hiking, photography, star gazing and watching wildlife.

    North end of park, just inside entrance on Stateroad 63 Short informational Video shown on the 1/2 hour and on the hour. Short Geology talks are also available in the Visitor Center Museum during the winter months. Restrooms, information, publications sales and backcountry permits are available at the visitor center. Exhibits - A museum with displays on local Geology, Wildlife, Star Gazing, Historic and Prehistoric.


    
    

    Special Events and Programs

    Activity Description
    Just For kids Join a ranger for games and activities on ecology and Bryce Canyon.
    Reservations Required. Time: 1.5 hours
    Moonlight Hike Hike among moonlit hoodoos. Reservations Required. There is a 320 foot / 98 meter elevation change. Offered three times each month during the full moon. Time: 2.0 hours.
    Night Skies at Bryce Learn the stars, planets and constellations. Time: 1 hour.
    Star Party Join an astronomer from Hansen Planetarium and view the sky through telescopes. Offered once each month. Time: 2.0 hours.


    
    

    Campfire

    Ranger Activities

    Ranger / Naturalist programs include scheduled walks, guided hikes and evening campfire programs by rangers. Check bulletin boards in the park for details. Reservations are required for the Moonlight hike among the hoodoos and the Just For Kids Special Program.

    A schedule of ranger activities can be obtained when you enter the park.

    Ranger Led Activities
    Activity Description
    Queens Garden Hike Hike down to the canyon bottom to view the rocks and life forms up close.
    There is a 320 foot / 98 meter elevation change. Time: 2.5 hours. Distance: 1.8 miles.
    Navajo Loop Hike Switchbacks lead to the canyon bottom through Wall Street and past Thor's Hammer. There is a 521 foot / 159 meter elevation change. Time: 2.5 hours. Distance: 1.5 miles.
    Rim Walk Stroll along the canyon rim to learn of the park's diversity.
    Time: 1 hour. Distance: 1 mile.
    Bristlecone Loop Walk Walk through a dense conifer forest to exceptional views.
    Time: 1.5 hours. Distance: 1 mile.

    Talks and Evening Programs
    Activity Description
    Geology Talk Rangers tell the geological story of Bryce Canyon. Time: 20 minutes.
    Campfire / Auditorium Programs Bryce Canyon's diversity comes to life during the slide program or evening talk at the campground amphitheaters and visitor center auditorium. Time: 45 minutes.

    Junior Ranger Program

    As in other National Parks, Bryce Canyon has a Junior Ranger Program for youth ages 12 and under. The Junior Ranger Program really helps the youth get the most out of their visit to a National Park and to become involved as an official Junior Ranger and earn their patch.

    Junior Rangers are young people who:

    • Care about Bryce Canyon and all the national parks
    • Help to keep our national parks clean
    • Show respect for nature
    • Learn as much as they can about plants, animals, history and planet Earth.
    • May become national park rangers one day!
    • To find out how to become a Junior Ranger, ask at the Visitor Center when you get to the park!
    Join a ranger for games and activities about ecology and Bryce Canyon, designed especially for you. These special programs last one hour and are for KIDS ONLY!

    Reservations are required to come to these way cool programs so have Mom or Dad sign you up at the Visitor Center when you first get to the park.

    GEO-Detectives

    Kids, watch for this cool adventure series designed especially for you. Professor Allister Holmes and his crazy crew of prehistoric super sleuths need your help to solve some planetary mysteries. From "Where The Water Went," to "Cracking The Case of The Unknown".
